Vaccine Information

James H. Quillen VA Medical Center will resume vaccinating Veterans in its First-Dose COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic on Thursday, February 4 at 8:00 a.m. The First-Dose Vaccination Clinic was earlier temporarily suspended due to a lack of available vaccine.

James H. Quillen VA Medical Center is administering the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, which was allotted based on the facility’s ability to store the vaccine at -20C.

The Moderna COVID-19 vaccine was 94 percent effective in clinical trials in preventing COVID-19 disease. The vaccine is administered in two doses, 28 days apart. The side effects appear similar to those of other vaccines and are short-lived. The Second-Dose COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic at the medical center has continued operations since its inception.

The medical center is now vaccinating individuals in the CDC 1c categorization, which includes Veterans with high-risk medical conditions, as well as those over 65 years of age.

Even after receiving COVID-19 vaccination, Veterans should continue wearing face coverings, practicing physical distancing and washing hands often. As vaccines become available for more groups of Veterans, VA will make that announcement publicly. There is no need to preregister or come to a facility to sign up.

The First-Dose Vaccination Clinic for Veterans in the CDC 1c category will open as a walk-in clinic on Thursday, February 4, from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm, in Building 200, 2nd Floor Atrium. The First-Dose Clinic will remain open Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 3:00 pm, as long as supplies last.

The Second-Dose Vaccination Clinic is open Monday – Friday, from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm, in Building 160, 2nd Floor Atrium, by appointment only.
